Abstract

In the article “ Exploring the Sources and Consolations of Poetry, in Prose ,” the New York Times Book Review celebrates the achievements of Why Poetry , the new book by Saint Mary’s English Professor Matthew Zapruder. Poet Simone White, who reviewed the book, praised its insightful approach of pulling back the curtain on what poetry is, revealing how it can and should engage readers and its capacity to change our perspectives. In various parts of her review, White refers to Zapruder’s work as a roaring success, with phrases striking the reviewer as fresh, true and lovely.
