East Bay Biochemist Sells ‘Gene-Editing Kit’ For The Masses

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

School of Science Professor Vidya Chandrasekaran was interviewed by CBS-5/KPIX-TV about plans to market gene-editing kits to the public. The so called bio-hacking effort will allow DYI scientists to experiment in developing genetically modified organisms. An associate professor and chair of SMC’s Biology Department, Chandrasekaran commented on the ethical issues at stake in the venture, such as when untrained individuals experiment on live animals. Chandrasekaran's research includes molecular and cell biology and genetics.
