Abstract
WNYC, New York's flagship public radio station, featured Saint Mary’s English Professor Matthew Zapruder in conversation with award-winning radio host Leonard Lopate about Zapruder’s new book Why Poetry. In their discussion, Zapruder, the former New York Times poetry editor, makes the argument that poetry does indeed matter, citing the importance of the literary genre’s ability to promote a kind of lucid dreaming, and how it remind us as writers about the importance of the words that we choose, and what motivates us to choose them. WNYC is the nation’s most listened-to public radio station.
