Abstract

Join fellow educators for a day at Sonoma State University to celebrate the art and practice of teaching. Now more than ever, teachers deserve an opportunity to come together and learn from one another. Find inspiration in a morning EdTalk by Jonna Weidaw, a Mendocino teacher and alternative education rockstar. Add your voice to an EdCamp “unconference”, where teachers (such as you) facilitate conversations on professional development topics selected by attendees. Stay for lunch and engage in a hands-on workshop, “Design Thinking to Investigate the World and Take Action”, facilitated by leaders from the California International Studies Project, gurus from World Savvy, and teachers from the Teaching for Sustainable Communities Summer Institute. We’re thrilled to announce that Dr. Jill Biden will be joining us as our keynote speaker at the Better Together - California Teachers Summit! Dr. Biden is a lifelong educator and wife of former Vice President Joe Biden. As Second Lady, she worked to highlight the importance of community colleges to America’s future while continuing to teach as a full-time English professor at a community college in Northern Virginia. Dr. Biden’s experience and insights are especially valuable as California strives to better serve all of our students in a changing world. Dr. Biden will speak at the headquarters site of Saint Mary’s College of California and her remarks will be simulcast to 34 other sites across the state. Don’t wait to register for the 3rd annual California Teachers Summit on July 28! Reconnect with colleagues and friends, and make new ones, at a statewide day of learning- led by teachers, for teachers. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing network of teachers leaders across California.
