About

My current research topic is geological sequestration of carbon dioxide. Current plans for decarbonization in California and other jurisdictions are very ambitious. It is unlikely that these goals can be achieved without a substantial amount of carbon sequestration. This can be achieved by injection and storage, by mineralization, or by sequestration in forests and soils. Injection and storage dominates the current generation of carbon sequestration projects, but it requires seismic monitoring of the injected plume for many years after injection ceases. Mineralization approaches are less mature, but offer the possibility of storing carbon for geologic time.
